Biggest storyline: 5 sub 11 track speedsters that will spread the field and that includes a talented RB that may see DB reps this season. PC is loaded and has depth. Playing 5A teams makes them better, but the 3A contest versus Palmer Ridge on a Friday opening night should have been a statewide story and NOT 5A. However, look for the Valor matchup in week 4 to be a storyline as its Eagles vs Eagles in a throwback to 2011.

Names to watch this season: David “dm3” Moore III RB/DB, DJ Armstead, Max Lofy WR/DB, Eddie Kyle, Charles Nnantah, Gavin Herberg, Sam Miller, Rece Rowan and Daniel Bone.

Biggest holes to fill:  Replacing a starting QB again, 3rd year in a row and a speedy WR.

Gonzo’s Early Take: Arguably the toughest schedule in non conference statewide and a loaded team. Lots of depth on the roster and a coaching staff that enjoys tougher competition to get the guys ready for a run at the title. The state titles of 2013, 2014 and 2016 say it all as does the second place finish in 2017. The Eagles can compete in 4A and will test their skills on opening night versus 3A state title defenders in Palmer Ridge. SOCO football again seems to be overshadowed but the PC match ups with 5A Doherty and Valor might allow people to see a talented 4A team. PC could make some noise in a payback game from the 2011 state championship when Valor smacked them 66-10 with then sophomore CMAC now playing in the NFL. This season VC is rebuilding and PC is on the rise so circle week 4 on the calendar. While many will have PC ranked #1 in the preseason we feel they need to earn it as 4A is extremely competitive and the defending champions in Pueblo South moved down to 3A. So 4A is anyones title to win and there are several teams hungry and putting in the work to claim that number one spot. PC will be there down the stretch, so don’t fret if non conference games do not translate into victories in the win column because tougher competition is more valuable than wins against inferior opponents. The 2017 runner up nucleus roster is in place and now they just need to finish strong in 2018. In the end its not about where you rank in the preseason but where you finish on December 1, 2018 and Championship Saturday.
