Columbine Remains Unbeaten with Victory Over Mullen

The Columbine Rebels (6-0, 1-0) remain undefeated after a victory over the host Mullen Mustangs (2-4, 0-1). The Rebels controlled the game for much of the night and emerged victorious, beating the Mustangs 43-3.

The Rebels did what they do best, run the football, and scored 21 points in the 3rdquarter to pull away from the Mustangs.

It took just two offensive plays for the Rebels to reach the endzone. Columbine’s running back Adam Harrington ran the ball in from 39 yards out to give the Rebels a lead they would not relinquish.

Mullen would respond with a 16-play drive that resulted in a Wilson Yee 42-yard field goal. That drive was aided by 3 Columbine penalties, 1 on fourth down and 2 on third down to give the Mustangs offense a fresh set of downs.

Columbine’s quarterback, senior Jadon Holliday, would find Harrington in the endzone with 1:15 to go before halftime. The Rebels would take a 14-3 lead into the half.

Columbine would receive the second half kickoff and promptly march down the field for another touchdown. Tanner Hollens would run it in from 7 yards out capping the drive that lasted more than 6 minutes.

On Mullen’s next offensive possession, they were forced to punt from within their own endzone. Columbine’s special teams came up with a punt block and recovered in the endzone, for another score.

A couple possessions later Columbine’s defense came up big, this time sacking Mullen quarterback, Kyle Remington, in the end zone for a safety.

Hollens and Harrington would each add rushing scores for the Rebels, sealing the victory.

Next up for the Mullen Mustangs is their homecoming game against Ralston Valley, on October 11 at 7 p.m.

Next up for the Columbine Rebels is Lakewood on October 10 at 6 p.m.
