Rod Sherman bolts Colorado for California

Rod Sherman (73-25)

In 98 games in Colorado Rod had the most success at the private school of Valor Christian, the state’s elite Class 5A team going 57-11 that won three state championships. Sherman would give way to former Denver Broncos player Ed McCaffery in 2018 and pop up 3.6 miles North of VC at nearby Arapahoe HS.

Sherman was 4-3 in 2020 with no playoff games, 7-5 in 2019 and 1-1 in postseason that eclipsed the 5-6 mark in the inaugural season and one playoff loss at Arapahoe HS. Overall League play was a combine 5-10 in three seasons with wins over Overland three straight seasons and dubs against Cherokee Trail and Smokey Hill. The total record for the warriors is 16-14 over that 3-year span that included one playoffs win, Castle View and two losses against Lakewood and Ralston Valley. Thus giving Sherman a 74% overall winning performance in Colorado in multiple classifications.

The culture certainly has changed for the Littleton public school. However, the next HC will have to fair better than (1-1) against neighboring Heritage HS and significantly better in Centennial league games, especially since Arapahoe’s penciled into the 6A classification in 2022 and 2023 if they ratify in December.

Meanwhile, Rod will commence his duties in California and commute from his Colorado home until the LPS school year ends. The Orange Lutheran job has begun with a few adjustments this week and next. The Sherman family will return to its roots in Orange County and try to turn around a struggling football program that went 1-4 this spring, 5-6 in 2019 and 2018 and 6-6 in 2017. OLu’s last winning season was in 2013 at 7-4.

The RodFather has left the state! Best wishes in the challenging CIF Trinity League in California.

Centennial League has been disrupted since 2012 and only rivals the Jeffco teams league. Very few teams or coaches have had success in this two league 5A classification and turnover says it all!
